Our Doctors

Dr. Mark Wolpa began his practice in 1977 after completing his residency training in sports medicine and foot surgery. His interest in sports medicine led to his writing a book The Sports Medicine Guide.

Dr. Wolpa has been the Chief of Podiatry at the Alta Bates-Summit Hospital for the past 10 years. He is a member of the California Podiatric Medical Association where he served on the Board of Directors, as well as the American Podiatric Medical Association, and the Alameda Contra Costa Podiatric Medical Association where he is a past President.

As well as sports medicine, Dr. Wolpa treats all different foot problems including children, diabetics, and surgical. He is Board Certified in foot and ankle surgery and is also a Fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Wolpa developed an interesting hobby many years ago, which has led to a full time business venture. He formed a candy company called Toe-Food Chocolates & Candy, which has blossomed into a full time endeavor with over 30 different foot themed candies (www.ToeFood.com). As a result of his unusual combination of professions, he has appeared on many a television program including To Tell the Truth, The Food Network, and Evening Magazine. His company was also featured in the Wall Street Journal.

Dr. Wolpa holds over 40 trademarks as well as two patents on medical devices. He has published articles on foot surgery and besides his sports medicine book has also authored a children’s book titled Tommy’s Toe-rific Adventures.

When not practicing, Dr. Wolpa enjoys participating in sports, travel, theater, and reading.


Dr. Jennifer Barlow graduated from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in 1998. She completed three years of residency training in Salt Lake City, UT in 2001. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

For the past ten years, Dr. Barlow has enjoyed a full range of podiatric medical experience, including serving in the United States Air Force, podiatrist for an Indian Health Program, as well as working in private practice. In addition to performing laser treatments she enjoys all aspects of podiatry.

When not practicing podiatry Dr. Barlow is a competitive bicycle road racer.


After graduating from the California College of Podiatric Medicine with honors, Dr. Van Woy completed her surgical residency training at Parkway Regional Trauma Center in Miami Florida.

Dr. Van Woy has been practicing podiatry in the East Bay since 2000. She treats all types of foot problems with a special interest in children and teens and sports medicine. She is board certified in Primary Podiatric Medicine and Podiatric Orthopedics.

Outside of podiatry, Dr. Van Woy is a Girl Scout leader for three different troops. She also teaches a Healthy Eating and Living class at her children’s elementary school in Benicia. She practices and competes in several disciplines of martial arts, and is doing the Northern California ‘Tough Mudder’ event. Dr. Van Woy also enjoys camping, backpacking, and scrap booking.
